Surrounded by serene gardens and woods, The Cedar Ridge Creative Centre is host to a unique and meaningful art exhibit founded by a group committed to expressing and sharing ideas of peace.

32 Points - 32 Voices: A Compass of Peace brings together 32 artists from 6 countries as "voices" on a compass of 32 points exploring the meaning of peace through art, poetry, video and photography on the theme of "what does Peace mean to you?"

 

The Opening Reception on Sunday September 8 from 1-4 pm will feature opening remarks, including Project Ambassador, Albertan artist Amy Loewan RCA, and special guests.

Marking the UN International Day of Peace on Sunday September 21 from 10 am to 4 pm, special interactive events will be held, including yoga, storytelling, art workshops and music. To commemorate this Day of Peace, we invite you to join us for the UN Global Moment of Peace/A Minute of Silence observation, which will be held at 12 noon.

 

Opening Reception

September 8, 1-4 pm:

  • Opening Welcome and Remarks:  Project Ambassador, Albertan artist Amy Loewan RCA

  • Music by participating artist and Celtic Harper Daryne Rockett

  • Refreshments

  • Meet the Attending Artists

  • Participate in the creation of an interactive 4 panel Mandala Art Creation by Daryne Rockett

  • Hear a special slide show presentation and talk " Artist in Service" from 2 to 3 pm with Amy Loewan

  • View the Exhibition artwork and a display piece created by the residents of Extendicare Guildwood.

UN Day of Peace Special Events

September 21:

Activities for adults and children to include:

10 am

  • Welcome by Project Peace Ambassador and participating artist, Deborah Dannelley

  • Smudging Ceremony and Land Acknowledgement led by Jennifer Town of the Ojibwe Nation, artist  and instructor at Cedar Ridge Creative Centre with participation by all attending

  • Welcome by Margaret Chan, Acting Manager of Arts Services, City of Toronto

10:15 - 11 am

  • Yoga for Peace with certified yoga instructors Tracie Parkinson from Winnipeg and Stacy Melbye from Toronto - all ages and levels  welcome! Please bring a yoga mat.

11 - 11:30 am

  • Poetry Book Launch and Reading - "A Fistful of Stars" by Menaca Calyaneratne from Sri Lanka

 11:45 am

  • Call to gather for Minute of Silence/Moment of Peace
